Grand Canyon, Arizona
The Grand Canyon. What a sight to see. This place has been on our bucket list for years and it finally became a reality. It was a short weekend trip and it was definitely one for the books. We took off at 3 a.m. on a Friday and headed towards Sedona. Why we decided to take the long road - I’m not sure and I don’t recommend it because the driving will wear you out. We stopped in Sedona to stretch and walk around. Had lunch at a nice little Mexican restaurant called Tortas De Fuego. I’m a sucker for mole enchiladas and they delivered with their deliciousness.
Before taking off to Williams, AZ, we stopped at PussyCat Gelato. We ended up getting an Affogato Coffee which always hits the spot. No matter how hot it is out. A little caffeine in my blood stream is just what I needed for the drive.
We stayed at a hotel in Williams, AZ. A cute little town which looks straight out of the Cars movies. We had dinner at Cruiser’s Route 66 Cafe. Be prepared to wait at least half an hour if you go late during dinner time. The food was good. Fried food always hits the spot after a long day. Their appetizers are super big.
Saturday morning we took off to the Grand Canyon. We ended up doing the Bright Angel Trail. We went about 2/3 of the way down. The way back up is brutal so take plenty of water and snacks. That took up our whole day. Afterwards we drove back to Williams and wrapped up the night at Grand Canyon Brewing + Distillery. I had a pear beer (or a peachy beer?) that was good. The night was chilly so we ran back to the hotel and hit the hay.
The next morning we grabbed a quick bite to eat with a nice cold iced coffee at Brewed Awakenings and started the drive back home to good ole Riverside County. On the freeway we saw a sign to the Grand Canyon Caverns so we decided to take a detour. I had never been inside a cave and while it was a little creepy going down the elevator it was overall an awesome experience.
Another adventure for the books.
